NAUTICAL

One of the reasons I love coming to Florida is that we've got several wonderful nautical things in close proximity. My love of nautical things originated, I think, during my first viewing of The Life Aquatic, approximately two summers ago.

Since then I have personally acquired a captain's hat, a fake pipe, and a peacoat with anchor buttons that I like to think could belong to a captain. I value all of those things dearly, but the really good stuff is here in Florida, waiting most of the year for me to come back and appreciate them.

The Galileo Thermometer. It sits proudly in my room. Yes, I know it looks like a phallus, but, well, fuck you, it's awesome:

The magic conch. In a perfect world, I would be able to blow it and summon all the creatures of the sea to my aid. But, alas, we do not live in a perfect world. It's Caleb's actually, not mine.

This super awesome porthole-like clock hangs in my grandfather's workshop. I really really want it.

Something we've owned for a while that I only discovered recently is this ship in a bottle. By the way, ships are usually assembled outside the bottle then placed inside.

So those are all the nautical things currently in my life. Of course I would love some more, including a Breitling watch, a giant globe, a dive helmet, a giant telescope, a porthole, and an hourglass.

And I will get them all, eventually. Perhaps when I get my own ship and sail across the world. That will be the day.

  1. Join the navy? Haha just kidding.

But yes, all of that nautical stuff is really fascinating. And that is a pretty clock..looks like it has opal or something on it.
